From Velvěty to Düren: How Czech Engineering Is Conquering the European Surfactants Market
Velvěty—a part of the municipality of Rtyně nad Bílinou in Northern Bohemia with fewer than 200 residents. Yet for decades, thousands of tonnes of surfactants, construction chemicals, foaming agents, and other industrial auxiliaries have been shipped from here to customers around the world. The plant supplies cosmetic formulators, manufacturers of cleaning and washing products, and construction companies across Europe, the USA, and the Middle East. How has ENASPOL managed to succeed in the global market?
Technical foundations since 1968: continuous sulfonation
The plant’s modern history began in 1968, when the first continuous sulfonation line using gaseous SO₃ was built in Velvěty. This sophisticated technology enables precise and cost-effective production of anionic surfactants—key raw materials for cosmetics as well as cleaning and washing products. Roughly a year later, production of polynaphthalene sulfonates for construction chemicals followed.
Know-how gained over more than five decades of operation has gradually become one of the company’s major competitive advantages. In 2007, ENASPOL doubled its capacity for polynaphthalene sulfonates used as concrete superplasticizers. In 2011, it further expanded continuous sulfonation capacity. These steps confirmed a strategy focused on technically demanding products—segments where quality, reliability, and consistency matter more than price alone.
Export in the company’s DNA
More than 50 export destinations, thousands of regular deliveries each year, and a presence in markets from the Middle East to the USA. ENASPOL is not simply a company that “also exports,” but one that has export in its DNA.
For a mid-sized manufacturer, global logistics for chemicals is a complex discipline: it requires mastering international regulations, thorough planning, and the ability to guarantee consistent product parameters over the long term. This capability, however, delivers a decisive competitive edge.
A strategic move: Germany as a gateway to expansion
The acquisition of a sulfonation plant in Düren, Germany, in 2015 was a strategic decision. For many EU customers, “Made in Germany” is synonymous with trust—and for ENASPOL it also meant direct access to the heart of European activity in the surfactants market.
Enaspol GmbH serves as a bridge between Czech technical tradition and German quality standards—between an agile, family-run company and the expectations of corporate clients. This combination appeals especially to customers looking for a reliable alternative to large corporations.

Flexibility as a competitive advantage
“Why work with ENASPOL?” The answer is often captured in a single word: flexibility. Large players excel in volumes and global reach, but their weakness is often rigidity—long approval processes, standardized portfolios, and limited willingness to tailor solutions.
ENASPOL can respond to specific requirements in weeks, not months. The company can quickly adapt formulations, find a sensible balance between price and technical specification, and deliver trial batches without unnecessary delays.
Certifications as proof
RSPO certification supports the responsible and sustainable use of palm- and palm-kernel-based raw materials. For many formulators—especially in cosmetics—RSPO is often a prerequisite for market entry. The CE marking for products in construction chemicals confirms compliance with the European regulatory framework for construction products.
In the chemical industry, third-party certifications are proof of expertise, transparency, and reliability. Alongside flexibility, they represent one of the key pillars of our customer approach.

Vision: to be more than a supplier
A supplier delivers a product to specification. A partner helps solve a problem. ENASPOL does not see itself as a company that “just sells chemicals,” but as a partner helping customers create better products: milder and more sustainable shampoos, more effective cleaners, more durable concrete, more stable and richer foam. You name it.
That requires technical support, a willingness to share know-how, and long-term relationships built on trust. ENASPOL’s story shows that success is not determined by company size, but by the quality of products, services, and relationships.
