A sugar refinery is opened on the site of the present-day plant, laying the foundations of the industrial tradition of the area.

  • FIRST CHEMICAL PRODUCTION

Chemical production commences, with the first products including resins and laminate components.

  • LAUNCH OF AEROSOL PRODUCTION

Velvěty becomes the site of the first serial production of aerosols in Czechoslovakia. Development of aerosol products begins here in 1958.

  • START OF THE SURFACTANT ERA

Construction of a continuous sulphation line for the production of surface-active agents (surfactants). Launch of production of textile auxiliary preparations (TAP).

  • PRODUCTION OF CONSTRUCTION CHEMICALS BEGINS

Launch of the production of concrete superplasticisers and dye dispersants based on polynaphthalene sulphonates.

  • MAIN SUPPLIER OF SURFACTANTS AND TAP FOR THE EASTERN BLOC

The company reaches annual production of more than 30,000 tonnes of TAP and becomes a key supplier of surfactants and raw materials for the textile industry across the entire communist bloc, including the Soviet Union. During this period, the plant operates as a subsidiary of Spolchemie Ústí nad Labem.

History

The origins of industrial production at the company’s current site date back to 1872, when a sugar refinery is established on the site of today’s plant. During the Second World War, ammunition production facilities and storage warehouses are built at the site and remain in operation until 1957.

During the socialist era, Enaspol, then operating under the name Provoz Velvěty, forms part of the chemical group Spolchemie Ústí nad Labem. Chemical production begins shortly after the Second World War with the launch of resin and laminate roofing production. From 1958, the development of aerosol products begins, and in 1961 the first serial production of sprays in the country starts in Velvěty.

In 1968–1969, a continuous sulphation line for the production of surface-active agents (surfactants) is constructed in the former ammunition storage area. Production of textile auxiliary preparations (TAP) is launched during the same period. In 1970, these operations are expanded to include the production of polynaphthalene sulphonates used as concrete superplasticisers and dye dispersants.

In the following years, the company becomes the main producer of TAP for the entire communist bloc. At its peak in the late 1970s and early 1980s, TAP production exceeds 30,000 tonnes per year, fully covering the demand of textile manufacturers in Czechoslovakia, the GDR, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, the Soviet Union, Mongolia and other countries of the bloc.

The modern history of the company begins in 1993 with the establishment of Enaspol, s.r.o. Enaspol, a. s. is founded in June 1996. The company is privatised in 2000, the year that also sees the investment of the current owner.

In 2007, production of polynaphthalene sulphonates is doubled, and in 2011 the capacity of the continuous sulphation line is also doubled. Today, Enaspol employs more than 150 people and the company is undergoing specialisation in narrowly focused industrial sectors.
